The History of Creation

The world of Eikasia itself has no name that its immortal or mortal denizens can remember. Rather than refer To their global home with a single name, they instead refer to the eras the world has gone through. When discussing the world in the present era, it is Kélyfos. The previous and shortest era was known as Anárchi, the time of woe, heavenly war, and the Fae. But the era that started it all, or is at least as far back as anyone can remember, even the gods, was Sárka. This beginning time was a time of wonder and peace.

It is a shame, then, that only the false gods remember it.

Sárka

All of existence was created by a living and all-powerful God. He was the one true God, omnipotent and deathless. His genius forged countless universes, one of which being that of Eikasia's. But before he created mortals, he created immortal beings to serve him. These beings, known as Astrals, possessed great abilities and incredible mental faculties, but they lacked His wisdom, His omnipotence, and His invincibility.

Many millenia passed. The Astrals and various mortal creatures God had created enjoyed an unrivaled prosperity. Then calamity struck.

God departed.

Anárchi

The Creator's departure was without warning. The Astrals were stunned. They searched tirelessly for their master. Where could he have gone. Why did he leave? Had they angered Him in some way? Without leadership they became disorganized and negligent of their duties. In their panicked distraction... The Fae came.

It is unknown if God created the Fae, or if they were beings that had somehow formed outside of the various universes the Creator had formed himself. All anyone understood was that they were powerful, whimsical, and cruel. The world of Eikasia suffered as the Fae brought havoc upon mortals. Laws of nature were broken. Insanity was like a plague that swept the planet like a wild fire. The Fae, gleeful in their chaos, laughed at the suffering of mortals.

Sluggishly, the Astrals realized the consequences of their abandoning their duties. In searching for God, they had allowed the Fae to twist and pervert their master's creation. Dismayed, they banded together and waged war on the Fae. This war lasted hundreds of years. During the course of that time, the Astrals realized their God was not coming back. The struggle became bleak as some wondered what they were even fighting for.

One of the strongest Astrals, Halward, condemned these of his brothers. How could they not see? If God would not return, then it was up to them to restore order. They could rule over mortals and enjoy the worship their Creator had kept all to himself. Halward's words swayed many to his cause. Under his undisputed leadership, the Astrals rallied and fought fiercer and harder than they ever had.

The Fae faltered. They were not organized. They had no general, or king, or god to lead them. Under Halward's ruthless campaign, the wild spirits were routed and driven back to the strange dimension from whence they came.

With their enemy finally gone, the Astrals looked to each other and realized that one last vital question needed answering: who was in charge of what? Halward, the deliverer of peace, was swiftly voted to be their king. While their new god king was their strongest and bravest fighter, the Astral lacked the omnipotent knowledge needed to properly delegate power. And so, being a war-like being, he declared that any demesne desired was to be won in battle. Thus began the Civil War of Heaven.

Astrals had been created to love each other and all of their God's creation. In his absence and their ensuing fear and war with the Fae, the heavenly beings became corrupted. Lesser mortal feelings like wrath, jealousy, and gluttony infected their minds. By the end of the Fae War, the Astrals had developed rivalries amongst one another. Astrals who had once worked together to maintain an aspect of their Creator's work began to quarrel over who should be in charge.

Bloody battles were carried out. Astrals were destroyed. Halward looked on, having already set aside for himself the power of the stars, the aspect of war and battle, ambition, and the veil of heaven. Over time, other Astrals emerged victorious, claiming other aspects of existence. Kupala, Tellus, Artemis, Aelurus, Eate, Tenjin, Njord, Atargatis, Fortuna, and Lacertli, to name a few.

With rulers established, the next great task became reasserting order on the various universes the Fae had tormented. In some worlds, the mortals and ecosystems still existed, but with great trauma. In other worlds, there was but a wasteland.

This is the pitiful state Eikasia's world was in.

Using the blueprints left behind by God, the Astrals, now lesser gods themselves to the mortals who knew them, recreated the world from the ground up. Halward created humans. Aelurus created Ailurans. Tenjin created the elves, and so on and so forth. Only when the world was completed did the next era finally begin.

Kélyfos

This is the present world of Eikasia after the war between the Astrals and the Fae ended, and the planet was remade from the ground up. The Astrals assumed control of all of existence across the multiverse. This existence is imperfect, but enjoys some semblance of order without the cruel whimsy of the Fae.

The Astrals revealed themselves to the mortals of Eikasia, it being the one world they felt the most ownership over. For many, it was their favorite place to rule. They shared the history of their war against the Fae and their ultimate victory over the strange spiritual beings. But noticeably absent from their account was the era of Sárka. Each Astral fabricated their own creation story to compensate for this, feeding these lies to mortals.

As millenia passed, the became complacent. They had followed God's blueprints in creating Kélyfos, but in their growing arrogance, they had deviated from His perfection. The foundation of Kélyfos held hairline fractures... and those fractures are growing.

If Anárchi was plagued by the Fae, then Kélyfos is plagued by astral demons. The very fractures that the false gods created gave spring to these vengeful supernatural entities who hate the Astrals and all their lies. They know that the gods are not invincible, nor is their inferior creation. Through their unique forms of power, they seek to tear down heaven and revolutionize all of existence. To what? No one knows.
