Welcome to my shrine to The X-Files! For now it's an image gallery, but in time I'd like to add more things: A fan podcast, episode summaries/reviews, fan art, fanfiction, spin-off reviews (like for the Lone Gunmen show, standalone audiobooks and comics, etc.), fun trivia pages, a walkthrough for the X-Files: Resist or Die PS2 game, a walkthrough for the X-Files PC FMV game, and maybe even news! Will I be able to add all of that? Heck, any of it? I have no idea! The point is to just have fun! Keep checking back to see if more has been added!

REGARDING SPOILERS: Not too much of that here, text-wise, but if you haven't seen all of the X-Files and would like to not have something ruined, just make sure not to hover your mouse over the green blocks of text! To see the spoilers, just hover over it. Obvs. Otherwise, the further you scroll into the image gallery I cannot promise you won't see a spoiler. Sorry.

TIP FOR RETURNING VISITORS: If you'd like to come back here without going through the intro animation again, just bookmark this page!

My Fan Story

The X-Files is such a wonderful show. It's true, it shined best when it followed its "Monster of the Week" formula, but its questions about aliens and the government's coverup of their existence touched on some very prevalent feelings at the time. Now after all the tragedy, scandals, and bombshell revelations we've gone through over the years, it really doesn't feel that Chris Charter's show was so off the mark. Even more interesting is all the alien news cropping up these days!

I've watched all of the original show, all of the films, and one complete season of the revival series. I own the second season of the revival, but it was tough to finish. Even Gillian Anderson didn't like how it went (Beware! Spoilers for Season 11 for the previous link). She said she would only return to the series with whole new writers! That's pretty damning. I was inclined to agree when Scully had her dream fakeout in the season 11 premiere. Yikes.

I didn't hate the revival series, honestly. Yes, it did feel a bit old-fashioned, but it was still really great to see Mulder and Scully again! But the original series holds a special place in my heart. I still remember vividly the almost palpable effect the intro music would have on me as a child. I was terrified of it! It was so strange and spooky! But contrastingly, I also really liked it. It sounded cool, mysterious, and thrilling.

It wasn't until I was in my late twenties and I'd had my first kid that I became interested in watching it, though. When I was a kid, I'd thought it was too scary for me. When I was a teenager, I thought it was slow and passè. I was too busy watching horror movies like Ichi the Killer and High Tension. Plus the internet was still very much in Web 1.0, and media wasn't ubiquitous and readily accessible. You had to HUNT for stuff alot of the time. When the X-Files reruns ended, so did my access to them for a long, long time.

My father had been an X-Files fan, so one Christmas as a birthday present, I bought him the first three seasons of the show. This wasn't cheap then, you have to understand! Box sets were a lot more expensive back then. I thought he'd really like it, and he seemed grateful enough, but he never opened or watched them. They sat in his DVD collection for years, even after I moved out. When he left my mom, the DVDs were still there. I found them one day and decided I'd just keep them. I was lonely and going through quite a few issues in my life. I felt like it was me against the world. So the day I popped in my first disc of X-Files was an important one. I found escape, but more than that, I felt bolstered against what I felt were the unseen forces that were trying to tear down my life.

Mulder and Scully are more than just a wisecracking team of intrepid FBI agents. They represent perseverance against seemingly impossible odds. They are truth seekers, and yes, fighters for justice. They are awesome, and I love their story. I hope you enjoy this shrine.

REGARDING THE IMAGES USED

I've already stated it on my credits page, but the majority of my X-Files images were harvested from the Internet Archive via archived fan pages from the 90s and early 00s, thus the lower quality and the retro hair and clothes. In the future, I'll be using my own screenshots straight from the show, which will include shots from the revival series.

My X-Files Retrospective Series

Below are my thoughts on the series, specifically crafted with new viewers in mind. A strange cross between an episode summary and fan analysis. In case you're wondering, the format will be (mostly) as follows: a detailed summary of the episode's opening hook and an analysis of the series so far, maybe with some behind-the-scenes info, followed by my general impression of the episode with all potential spoilers either hidden or adequately marked off with warnings. Any images included will avoid explicit spoilers, but the best one can do, especially if you're going to read a lot of these, is to just watch the episode before reading a post. These are meant to be fun, sometimes informative, and also (I hope) insightful. If you've never seen the X-Files before, I'd definitely check out my first post covering the series pilot episode! Look forward to more, soon.

X-Files Links

For a harrowing while there, it seemed like there were no more live privately-run X-Files fan sites left. Everything I'd been finding was just on the Internet Archive. Then I managed to find these!
